Some articles on biodiversity loss focus on wildlife, others on livestock and rice, corn and maize. Some bee colony collapse disorder articles focus on loss of monetary gain from honey while entirely ignoring crop pollinator losses. Other articles attack Monsanto while ignoring the state of modern agriculture and the other five giant GMO/Pesticide corporations.

“100 YEARS OF AGRICULTURAL CHANGE: SOME TRENDS AND FIGURES RELATED TO AGROBIODIVERSITY (from FAO 1999)

Š      Since the 1900s, some 75 percent of plant genetic diversity has been lost as farmers worldwide have left their multiple local varieties and landraces for genetically uniform, high-yielding varieties.

Š      30 percent of livestock breeds are at risk of extinction; six breeds are lost each month.

Š      Today, 75 percent of the world’s food is generated from only 12 plants and five animal species.

Š      Of the 4 percent of the 250 000 to 300 000 known edible plant species, only 150 to 200 are used by humans. Only three - rice, maize and wheat - contribute nearly 60 percent of calories and proteins obtained by humans from plants.

Š      Animals provide some 30 percent of human requirements for food and agriculture and 12 percent of the world’s population live almost entirely on products from ruminants”.

There are numerous other ways to look at biodiversity loss: 35-40% of all bees in North America go extinct in the same years (2011-2024) that the Earth adds one billion more persons to the population. The addition of one-billion-more-consumers causes 40% of wild pollinizers (bats, moths, golden bumble bees, etc.) to go extinct from pollution. The remaining 60-65% of pollinizers are less diverse genetically, or rather more homogenous to pesticides, pollution, disease, varroa mites, etc.

The crops these pollinizers pollinize are more homogenous to diseases, super weeds, etc. and more heavily bombarded with pesticides. Some of the crops or crop “waste” is chicken food, pig food, etc. The entire system keeps having another one billion eaters added to the population at the same time livestock, pigs, chickens, corn, maize and rice are made 30-40% more inbred and prone to disease.

Š      Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO)

Š      The winter of 2013 saw a 23% die off in North American bees that followed a previous 35-40% die off from 2006-2012.

Š      The genetic diversity of corn and maize has largely been replaced throughout Mexico by Roundup-Ready Corn genes from Monsanto. The diversity needed for corn to resist future diseases is largely gone from the gene pool.

Š      1,200-1,500 breeds of livestock are now considered rare or endangered

Š      Loss of genetically diverse crop seed collections is loss of future taste, texture, disease and insect resistance, species survival

Š      Commercial Chickens are losing Genetic Diversity

Š      Rice with inbred human genes (GMO) is being grown in Kansas

Genetic Erosion means between 1900 and 2000, 75% of everything humans ate was lost from the seed and gene pool. Everything being farmed today is the other 25%, but tampered with as inbred, hybrid and transgenic (GMO). This seed map gives one a text, food pictorial and global map view of crops.

Rather than saddling farmers with a carbon tax, governments would do better to ameliorate Carbon and Pesticide emissions via a multiple child tax, where couples having more than one child are taxed incrementally for having more than one child per marriage. Domestic and wild pollinizers die-off, crops and livestock are becoming either extinct and/or inbred as we add one billion more mouths to feed. Overpopulation has always been and is the smoking gun; so idiotic news outlets scream climate change to the undereducated breeding masses rather than risk appearing politically incorrect. The US media touts sex as an almost mystical religion rather than as the source of most diseases, crop and species extinctions and the source of a bourgeoning uneducated consumer/soldier class.

Today, 75 percent of the world’s food is generated from only 12 plants and five animal species ~ these 12 plants and five animal species are the most inbred and most transgenic species globally. Each new billion mouths that are added (one more billion by 2024) just add to the food species die-offs and fertilizer run-off and pesticides leeching into the water table. By 2024, 8 billion people will be living primarily upon farmed rice and factory-ship-harvested jellyfish. The US lost 35-40% of domestic pollinizer honeybees and most journalists moaned about the loss of honey or honey prices from 2006-2012. In the winter of 2013 another 23% (of the remaining bees) died and some journalists said it was not as bad as previous die offs. The remaining are what 40% of North American food is pollinized with… The food will go extinct with the bees… Bee extinction is tomato and coffee extinction, green and pinto bean extinction, et al. Losing 40% and 23% of North America’s bees is not a monetary number – it is genetic germplasm loss that won’t ever be replaced. The dead bees will never breed again hence the remainder will become inbred and weak. The slowness of society to see beyond a $10 pound of honey is reminiscent of the Dodo Bird…
