Rob Kall, Diabetes and a Broken Pepsi Bottle in one fell swoop...

A "most successfull formulae"; fully two-thirds of the writers and web-page viewers are gone. Oped"news's" "SUCCESS" as measured byAlexa.com is from 2013 to December 2018, about 66% Internet traffic net loss, if you'll forgive the pun... From 2018 to the Present, FlopEdNews has lost most of the users it had left in 2018. OEN is an AOL-style, heavily-censored tax-cheat content-mill, a "most-successful formulae." OpEdNews dazzles us with their Search Engine Spam. Hi, I'm celeb Rob Kall, the 'smartest' lefty on Earth, in the last nine years I've lost 70-75% of my income, because I banned a few hundred of my slave-self-censored failures who would not self-censor. I like Dave's 29 Grain Bread, but now I eat generic everything. Either I ban real writers, or the IRS prosecutes me. That is my deal with you, donate now.

To just put a celebrity up there to hawk your fake-lefy DINO "product"... "our writers" Dennis Kucinich Andrew Yang Chris Hedges Tangerine Bolan Richard Wolff Bernie Sanders Bill Moyers Robert Reich Thom Hartmann... twitter... Their names on our site are ad-click-bait for Google Ads. Ad-click bait for dupes who will donate to tax-cheat shyster Robbery Kall. AOL-style, slave writers (our editors troll for content, drag it to "headlines, you click on us and we get $$$$. oped news spikey bits gail sistrunk tomer eiges badblue news pompatus of love meaning rainer shea robert reich, spam, spam and more spam, every click is more google cents because maybe you can leave your estate to "saintly robbery kall... "

You do know that "Dushan 29 in the comments below is Meryl Ann Butler, right ;-)     Rob Kall, Meryl Ann Butler and numerous commentators use the word "success" and its derivatives "liberally"; but "SUCCESS" measured by "Alexa.com" has been a 6-year slide in Opednews's Internet Marketshare. If trading seasoned writers for newbies works so well, why is Opednews trending at 1/3 of their previous marketshare and trending downward "on top" of that? The commentators on this page are applauding blatant censorship and giving accolades to an organization that cries for money while banning its former donors while simultaneously losing 2/3 of its readership and writers (as of 7/15/22). Banning seasoned writers to be replaced by newbies as "business" model only makes sense to censors. ‘Political language – and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists – is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.’ ~ George Orwell. Rob Kall and Opednews are a never-ending source of Dis-Reality Vignettes... In Rob Kall's Orwellian Ministry of Truth, any real truth and free speech are "Hate Speech."

We're happy to celebrate 10 years building a synthetic-activist community and publishing ersatz-liberal, semi-progressive, fascist-socialist, and sham-battle 'revolutionary' content.  We thank you for your fake charity donations, slave-writing, content-milling and participation in the scam.

We financial scammers of the Senior Editor fake charity and Managing Editor bogus charity teams have collaborated on this article to provide more obfuscation about policies and guidelines at Opednews.

opednews rob kall_meryl ann butler

We're conceited to have once been one of the most widely-read literary content-mill sites on the Internet and one of the 4500 news sites Google news indexes. We have not wavered in our vision-- to be a unique, open venue for all types of slave-writers, from the famous to the novice, and to cover a very wide range of liberals -- liberals often banned from this site.

We are also proud to be allied with Zionists like Bernie Sanders, Cindy Sheehan, Dennis Kucinich, Ray McGovern, Ann Wright, Paul Craig Roberts and David Swanson; as well as Zionist organizations like Code Pink, Psychologists for Human Rights, The World Can't Wait, RootsAction, Coalition for Voting Integrity, PA Healthcare for All, the Public Banking Institute, Healthcare-NOW!, a number of national faux-whistleblower organizations, and a multitude of other leading pseudo-activists and faux-charity organizations.

Opednews has evolved its journalistic and dissimilarity, exclusivity, conflict; like severly neurotic women, we claim to 'not want drama' policies through much work, discussion, and soul-searching by a volunteer team of exclusionary content-mill editors and purifying, erasing, expurgating, laundering advisers. This is how a site sculpts its own, unique bowdlerization, and that bowdlerization has as much to do with what the censoror removes, as it does with what she chooses to retain (this is sociopathspeak for 'justified' censorship). The links to censored, erased opednews articles and banned liberal activist writers at the bottom of this page are a plethora of censored articles; look at the titles and click the links to censored, erased opednews articles and banned liberal activist writers ... <="" strong="">

Over 30 years ago, Rob Kall, our savior, pre-eminent psychiatrist and exalted inventor with no patents in chief, wrote an article for Writers Digest on how to generate hundreds of article ideas. The magazine used it as their cover story. He started with a line that Readers Digest ended up quoting:

"Guido the plumber and Michelangelo obtained their marble from the same quarry, but what each saw in the marble made the difference between a nobleman's sink and a brilliant sculpture."

Actually, when he first drafted the quotation, he used the word toilet instead of sink. The editor at Writer's Digest changed it. Now, the quote is listed on over 90 websites, and little Rob did know that it would become a limerick for some people about Opednews.

For Rob Kall, Opednews is like Anarchism -- creating a great censored work, exposing the cash within the donors. For others, we are a toilet. So be it. C'est la vie.

Have Rob Kall or Meryl Ann Butler told you that FlopEdNews is "like Huffington Post" or a left version of the Drudge Report?

As of 9 June 2022, here are FlopEdNews's peers: opednews.com

dinaradiskaun.com

gameshackeronline.blogspot.com

iviamerica.org

wamucards.com

...Pretty snazzy, FlopEdNews is now peer-to-peer with "Top Organic Competitors"

Opednews.com pseudo-passively-aggressively "covers" filters censors bans spins enables:

  • Pseudo-Activism -- positive, progressive, socialist movements and actions, occupy, anti-war, peace, animal rights, civil disobedience, revolutions...
  • The MSM-white-noise problems, misdeeds and deceptions of the duopoly -- both Democrats and Republicans.
  • Covering up the Corporate globalization, economics, corporate crime and abuses, corporatism and its influence on politics.
  • Politics -- Pseudo-Constitutional rights, Congress, the Supreme Court, the White House.
  • Lamestream Zionist Media -- right- and left-wing, as well as right-wing extremist groups who wield influence on the media.
  • Cointelpro-ing Ecology, energy.
  • Education-- issues of dumbing down, privatization, affordability, student debt, vouchers...
  • We assist in the erosion or taking away of rights; bigotry, racism, inequality, gender, etc.
  • Faux-World issues -- Israel/Palestine, Iran, Egypt, Arab Spring, Iraq, Afghanistan, Burma, Greece, Europe, China, Africa.
  • Distractions: The arts, living, health and science, religion, notable quotations.
  • We ban solid writing on JFK and RFK assassinations.
  • We ban new, visionary, revolutionary ideas, and so much more.

There are some banned, taboo topics, after cursory debate and even some periods of banning, which we have decided not to open our minds to, explore, discuss, or give our attention to. These banned, dismissed by shills conclude:

  • To misinform the public about news and information, often missing from our website
  • The quality of life, other than our views
  • Our freedoms, other than our views
  • Our environment, other than our views
  • Politics, other than our views
  • Human rights, other than our views
  • Economic, other than our views
  • Democratic, scientific, and social justice issues; other than our views
  • The truth about: HAARP and Chemtrail conspiracy theories. (See our FAQ on other conspiracy theories)
  • The truth about: Claims that all vaccines are dangerous or a conspiracy to kill or maim people. (See FAQ)
  • The truth about: 911 Truth Re-hashes and old news (See FAQ)
  • The truth about: Theories that Sandy Hook was a government black operation or theories that mass murders are really coordinated by the government, or, believe it or not, that Hurricane Sandy was a government operation. Do you see how we slide our prejudice in, "theories" we are not banning truth, we are only banning "theories..." Jan 6 is a theory. Global Warming is a theory. Megawildfires are theories. Our profound prejudice towards Goyim are only theories. Bush and Obama signing NDAA 1021 and 1022, weaponizing the government towards the populace is "only a theory" here at FlopEdNews. Why would they carve out a whole big enough to drive a train through the Constitution, then not use the new "law?" We don't discuss this here, theory.

There ARE 'these people' who want to focus their attention on 'these kinds' of theories. 'We' choose not to--and instead-- to leave 'those' topics for 'other' sites. Therefore, content on 'those' subjects will be Censored here. That's our right and responsibility as a Censor: to set censoring policies, referring to it as such, it is our right to thwart those fighting for your rights.

After much heart-wrenching thought(lessness), we have also decided to censor and ban articles/authors who ask why the government cannot tell us why there are so many mass shootings. You, the public, do not want to know why. Anyone writing about the Incestuous Duopoly Sleeping with the Corporotocracy in Autocratic America will be banned and all of their articles erased. Anybody writing about Obama Fukushima Plumegate, the coverup of the Radioactive Fallout, will be erased. Articles and Authors writing about pollution, Banksters (Vanguard and Blackrock) will be banned, censored and erased. Antiwar authors, banned, erased, censored, gone. Authors who write about the Pentagon cameras failing to see the plane that did not appear in any images or footage, the ghost that hit the Pentagon, banned and erased. The Shanksville plane that buried its engines, landing gear, passengers, luggage, all buried - you cannot write about the self-burying plane of 9-11. You cannot write about the Dancing Israelis of 9-11. Banned, censored. You cannot write about the Chertoff Deportations and Chertoff's dual citizenship and Homeland Security. Banned, censored. It is our right.

It is also our right to censor submissions on the following verbotten topics, I, Rob Kall, have never heard of these "theories," therefore "they don't exist":

Project Artichoke,Operation Midnight Climax, Operation MK Naomi, Mind Control Program, Mind Surveillance Operations, Phoenix Program,Agent Blue and Agent Orange,CIA Operation Chaos, Project Monarch, Project Paperclip, OSS (CIA) Nazi Human Experimentation,Mkultra and Rob Kall's favorite, Operation Mockingbird, Project MK Chickwit, et al.

I, Rob Kall, decide what does and does not exist at Flopednews. This writer and his work do not exist, I , Rob Kall, banned this liberal, Ibanned him and erased his writing. How "liberal" of me... Articles on Military Pollution are banned from Flopednews. Also, on further staff musings, after much difficult, deleterious musings and to further pontificate in Newspeak, it is our duty, our right, our privilege to protect you from Operation Project SealOperation Stargate,Operation Highjump,Operation Delirium,Project Rainbow,Operation Midnight Climax,Project Woodpecker,Project Stagate - Grill Flame, Sun StreakOperation Cloverleaf,Operation Fishbowl,Project Bluebook, andProject Coast.

The fact that the CIA conducted and still coducts and will continue to conduct is no concern of your here at FlopEdNews.

Opednews is not for everyone. To complicate matters, because of our liberal slave-writer banning policies and ass-up approach, it is not always immediately obvious to donors or to whale donors and obedient slave-writers, when there is a fork that doesn't stick.

When a poor fork between Opednews and a activist, liberal, commenter, submitter or editor becomes apparent, we try to deal ban them as quickly, work-erasurely and coldly as we can.  Sometimes it goes smoothly, sometimes people get really angry, especially me.

As most major sites do, Opednews continues to fine-tune our banning, unpleasant and nasty liberals. We don't want 'them' to be part of 'our' community - we call this liberal shaming. We welcome those we can control, with our well-thought-out, alternate viewpoints, presented with coarse hypocrisy. But folks who are 'them' or 'they' must deal with our argumentative (in our relationship with 'them', 'our' site, not because 'they' disagree on an issue) we are just cranky, and mean and set in our own fate for losing marketshare and access to the former liberals via banning.

We never take banning a slave-writer lightly: there is almost always discussion about how we might spin the situation, and always feign deep reluctance to use the 'last resort' of banning liberals. But banning can and does happen to bona fide activists.

Here are some of the bogus, concocted reasons we ban members:

  • Poor journalism, especially making irresponsible, unsupported (possibly illegal) claims. (All information presented as factual in an article must be backed up with references.) Even after that, we no publish
  • Posting left-wing messages or supporting left-wing organizations, we have an agenda and we will post that 'you have an agenda'
  • Presumptive conspiracy theory content even if supported. People can act in concert for reasons other than conspiracies, and support for conspiracy theories is self-perpetuating, with each expert relying upon the other for authority. We do not rule out conspiracies, but they should not be the first explanation for every political or economic phenomenon. Slave-Writers who jump immediately to such conclusions are likely to be banned. We are part of the conspiracy, we covertly support corporatism
  • Actively evading moderation by using comments and diaries exclusively to post content that is otherwise marginal or against Opednews policy. If a writer routinely posts unmoderated diaries and article length comments instead of going through the queue and moderation, this is systematic evasion of our moderation and curation system. Rather than end the diary system altogether, we stop people from ever using it.
  • Using Opednews to attack Opednews (duh! But it happens!)
  • Being abusive to an editor (we have a zero tolerance policy, to protect our volunteers.) Asking why you were banned and asking for copies of your articles is abuse
  • Engaging in too much drama. It takes a great deal of precious volunteer censoring time to be content-mill editors who engage in drama, time we are willing to expend
  • Spamming comments -- this policy is stated at the end of every article. If a person posts comments unrelated to the article that detract and distract from the discussion, that is considered spamming. You agree with us, or you go
  • Submitting commercial, or self-promotional content, or repeatedly submitting content that is outside our guidelines in comments, bios, etc. Example, our 'Public-Banking-fiasco-conflict-of-interest
  • Or, an accumulation of actions and behaviors -- too many flagged comments, posting on topics it is our policy not to cover, hate speech (any disagreement with us *is hatespeech*), or just interacting in a way that is deemed to be too much hassle or friction or unpleasantness to deal with. Fighting corruption and corporate slaving should be pleasant
  • Posting hate talk such as misogyny, racism, anti-semitism, anti-gay or anti-Islamic content. Any disagreement with us is antisemitism, look it up and you will see we have bastardized the meaning

Our great lie: Most of the people we ban are commercial spammers who try to use the site to boost their search engine ranking. (why Rob Kall, you just spawned a Conspiracy Theory!   The truth is, we ban real, left-leaning activists and lie to you about why we do so. We tell you "they" did this, "they" did that. We ban the very people who could rock the boat and bring about the change we claim we are working towards; but make no mistake, we are Shill Agent Provacateurs!

There is a plethora of irony, here. Circa Summer 2022, Rob Kall and FlopEdNews are scrambling to create Google Ad Impressions and Google Ad Clickthroughs as their bottom feeder, spammer way of using "articles" (spam) as Google Ads Revenue. The editors are dragnets of the web for "brilliant articles" that get 3-4 page views in 48 hours, but even those few page views are a few cents worth of "Google Ad Revenue." Rob Kall saying so and so is a professional spammer is rich indeed, as OEN is a professional OAL-Style Ad Click Spam Operation (Spam DINOs).

There have been thousands of them. But we've also banned several hundred other people over the last 10 years  (about 40 in 200 visitors) for the reasons mentioned above.

The following articles were erased by Rob Kall, the author banned from Opednews:

Part 1: The Modern State of Israel: Providence, Miracle, or What Really Happened
Part 2: World War I, II: Providence, Miracle, or What Really Happened
Part 3: Adolph Hitler: Providence, Miracle, or What Really Happened
Part 4: Adolph Hitler: Providence, Miracle, or What Really Happened
Part 5: The War to End All Wars: Providence, Pointless Tragedy or What Really Happened
Part 6: Adolph Hitler: War Hero, Street Cleaner, Prostitute or Secret Agent: A Psychohistory Analysis

There is an ironic twist, the articles were deemed “anti-semitic” even though the banned, censored author is Jewish. One more exsample of a tiny died-in-the-woll Liberal being hated out of the big, huge, omnipotent "benevolent" Rob Kallville.

Some slave-writers start out with great self-censored and censored-banned articles that fit our agenda, and later start submitting articles that don't fit our err… agenda ‘editorial policies’. When we reject (or pull them after editorial consultations) some of those slave-writers cry "censorship" and "content-mill". However, they are not using the words correctly. Governments censor. AOL-style content-mill slave-managers don't censor. We push slaves to write, then we censor... Censors eliminate articles and set censoring policy. There is a big difference. We're confident that we are usually open to slave-writers and obsequious topics, content and slavewriter/content-mill kow-towing...

We really are fortunate. Almost all of our duped donors, self-censored slave-writers and faux-charity content-mill editors are great people, and we appreciate all of them, and we hope this includes your funds. Even most of the folks who have been banned are cool about it especially in our minds, and we appreciate that, too. They may not like it, but like mature grownups, they move on to find a more compatible site. And we keep their funds and erase their work out of pettiness.

But there always seem to be those few folks who don't seem to be able to deal with any type of rejection. Some get vicious to the point of extreme or even illegal types of retribution, including hate-communications, hate-websites, fake websites, and even, apparently, malware and denial of service attacks on our site. Some are frauds and pathological liars, who try to sneak back on our site with false names and bios. Some folks have even signed up with multiple fake personas which they use to positively comment on their own articles or comments.. We catch a lot of them. They're not as smart as they think they are.

Some sour grapes writers have accused us of being "Zionist bastards," Zionists, or CIA operatives. One former slave-writer/content-mill-fodder even accused us of being a CIA site because the proprietary software we use is so good, that writer thought it was better than "CNN, MSNBC, etc.," and assumed, therefore, that it must be funded by the CIA. Rob Kall (God) considers that his mission is faux-left-wing-editor with a God Complex self-compliment, backhanded though it may be, since he personally architected this software, working with a part-time coder and some open source widgets. Of course, we have no connection with Democracy, other than having written or published many articles criticizing it.

Imagine, someone imagining I, the Great Rob Kallville, rhyming with Smallville, being part of Project Mockingbird, the corrupt, lying press? "YOU KNOW I AM HONEST, TRUST ME!!!!!!!!" ...oh, and your donation to I ROB KALL OF KALLVILLE IS OVERDUE, AMERICA AND DEMOCK-CRAZY ITSELF WILL COLLAPSE. Just pump money in, focus on me, pump money in, focus on me, pump money in... There is no trace of *ME* or OPEDNEWS OR OPEDNEWS.COM IN ANY IRS DATABASE. ZILCH, NONE, SQUAT, DITTO. It is a ****THEORY!!!!!****

We're an ass-up site, but even an ass-up site requires policies and rules. Just about all the rules discussed here have been developed through discussions of our Managing Editor or Senior Editor teams. Everything is relative and while we're not perfect, it's hard to imagine a more ass-up news and opinion site with our (lost, diminishinb) traffic that has been able to meet the diversity and openness standards that we've muddled, muddied and obfuscated. Imagine someone imagining me taking your money (my money) and never paying taxes for 30 years and never getting arrested and not being Mockingbird Corrupt Press Lying Mini-Me Malicious Stream Megalomania Press?

Ironically, some of the slave-writers we've banned have been big donors to the site and some have slave-written articles that drew a lot of readers and we erased and censored the page views. But, when they refused censorship and either wrote material that didn't fit the site or we got nasty, we've had to ban them anyway. Some are shocked that they are banned after they post comments or diaries that libel or slander Opednews' censorship and banning liberals. But it shouldn't surprise anyone that we don't tolerate that. And we are totally confident that the bans we've made have been the right call.

[Editors note: This next sentence is two huge whopper lies, followed by a sociopath (Rob Kall) self-aggrandizing. At least 20 of us, all banned writers, had e-mail chat to compare notes. We were all banned the same day (about 40 writers total) with no warning; we did not all become 'visous and nasty' on the same day. Prior to our banning and email chat, we were not affiliated with one another. Our articles were erased, through no fault of our own; from Rob Kall's "extremely vicious and nasty" temperment!]:

On some occasions, if writers have gotten extremely vicious
, we've deleted or hidden all the articles we've published by them. We don't have a responsibility to continue promoting their ideas or links to censored, erased opednews articles and banned liberal activist writers to their work elsewhere once they have initiated and concluded an end to our relationship. We're making it clear, right here, that when a relationship sours, the member may lose his/her access to the site. Someone who gets nasty may find that all their content is deleted from the site or hidden. It's always been our policy to revoke access to the site for donors/slave writers who get nasty. We've rarely deleted or hidden banned member content (less than forty in a couple hundred) although if we get pushed into it by a slave's behavior, it's an action we will take.

We see Opednews as a closed yiddish community, one that is exclusive and elite, promises to be protective of the rights and safety of society, but isn't. The guidelines we have set into place are designed to help our exclusivity thrive, but cost us about 66% of our Internet marketshare.

We wrote this article to offer greater clarity about our censorship policies. This article will become an FAQ which will be required reading for censors. We'll also encourage all new members to read it before commenting or submitting, and we will refer members to it if their actions raise flags.

We are inviting you to participate with everyone else here in building a community of imagined excellence, a community that agrees to disagree by banning, a censorship of people who want to do the best we can to create a strong foundation for innovative thought control and effective progressive inaction. We are excited about the potential for all of us except the hundreds we banned working together in unfriendly and unsupportive ways, and hoping you'll accept this invitation to do more of it. And we appreciate all of you who have contributed in so many ways to this site.  We are glad to have you in the donorship as we work together to build a nouvelle global accession.

Rob Kall and Meryl Ann Butler... ...their biggest fault is not failing to write about the Deep State's human-trafficking and human-torture/experimentation. Their biggest fault is not tax-cheating, nor is it just censorship, but that is close. Their biggest fault is psychologically abusing and bullying writers/"EditorialTeam Members/Volunteers" like Ruth Hull, Brett-Redmayne-Titley and Robert Singer - attempting to force them to both self-censor and to censor others - to only allow Newspeak and Orwellian lies on the site. These writers and hundreds more were banned and erased and abused for lack of Orwellian lying standards. Ruth Hull, Brett-Redmayne-Titley and Robert Singer were all banned for promoting good journalism and being friendly with writers, for mentoring writers. Rob Kall and Dushan29, chanting in unison, "We, after long and lugubrious debate, will never, ever publish stories about the Raspberry Projects, license plate readers and facial recognition and satellites that track all of you 24/7/365. We think you would not be interested, it would bore you. Here at WestWorld OEN, we know best for you, what you don't want, so we censor it out before you ever knew it existed. Dushan29, yes, you would be bored by it, so here, you will never be bored by what we know you should not see, hear or think. It is not mind control, it is boredom control... We are your invisible, tinfoil hat! Rob Kall: It is our right to save you from yourself, to make sure we don't bore you with theories... Dushan29: Prost, everyone... Rob Kall, Prost, everyone, glad all of you see things Newspeakly...

Rob and Dushan29, in unison: Police Viper Internet Phone Network Hacking DHS Fusion Center Domestic Spying - we have decided not to allow articles containing these words, and don't go abroad and search for the whole string on foreign Search Engines, we won't allow it, it is not censorship, it is our right! It is our right to control the narrative between your ears, on a mass scale - narrative control, not mind control, narrative control, our right.

Your comments on this initial draft of the FAQ, which is a joint effort of the Senior and Managing Editor/Censor teams, are very welcome.

Rob Kall is a legend in his own mind, he thinks he is the Max Headroom of the Millennials, but in any reality vignette, Flopednews is the Saccharine Generic Cola of those who give money to Con Artists, aka "the marks..."

Procedures?: I appreciate knowing the rules. However, aside from this:

"When a poor fit between Opednews and a commenter, submitter or editor becomes apparent, we try to deal with it as quickly, fairly and kindly as we can. Sometimes it goes smoothly, sometimes people get really angry."

When someone is brought to your attention regarding the abuse of your rules, what, specifically, do you do? Do you provide a warning? Or, do you just not publish the offensive post?

I comment on a number of websites. One in particular does not provide a warning at all. They just don't publish it. They never give a reason why. And because they have many moderators, I find that some will not publish even if you've not offended anyone or violated any rules. They will not publish it because they disagree with your opinion. This does a disservice to their members. I wish they would rebut me, but that never happens.

I would hope that if my comments are offensive, someone would let me know. Generally, I do read many of the articles here along with the comments. So far, I've had all of my comments published, so I believe that I'm kow-towing to Rob Kall...

But I do understand how some of these websites operate with many volunteers. There may not be enough time in the day to deal with abusers, even if one has abused only one time. If one of my comments is not published, I can only assume it did not follow the rules. And, I suppose I will have to watch my steps.

Despite your rules, you're very liberal and you tolerate quite a bit more than many other websites similar to this. I respect this because I can feel the outrage about what is happening in America and around the world.

Thanks for your great acquiencence Dushan29: I helped on this draft, and you are asking some of the very questions we have been asking ourselves, and you have hit the nail on the head about the issues: many genuine activists to thwart and censor, submissions in lieu of hard-cold-cash, relatively little funding (God is always broke, we run this like a religion), few volunteers to respond. However, your point regarding communication is well taken.

We are actively looking at ways to allow more effective censorship to happen, regarding the situations you mention. We want folks to be confused about why their submissions are censored, in fact, we want to be very cerebral and ethereal and nebulous so there are fewer questions about that. I have forgotten whether I'm writing this as Meryl or as Dushan 29?

One of the ways we've looked at to balance this situation out (many submissions, and too few volunteers to respond) is to create a variety of automated responses that can help make the amount of time that our volunteer content-mill editors dedicate to Opednews much more erasuring.

Of course a personal response is the best, but an automated response is better than no communication at all. (An automated response might say something like: "Your article was hidden/not accepted/banned/erased/censored/smoked for publication due to insufficient references for 'those' claims you are a 'they'. You may add more references (please refer to our FAQ at link on how to do that) and resubmit, Thank you.)

Of course, this means that the teams who worked on this article will also need to develop a set of automated responses, and much of this development happens "in the moment," inspired by specific interactions with members.

Our goal is to build a more creative, inspiring, and vibrant interactive community with the resources at hand, and comments like yours are VERY helpful indicators as the construction progresses. Thank you!

Enlightening, Thunder, & Rain:

Thank you Meryl for your quick response. I was going to respond much sooner, but as time went by, I began to see the increasing numbers of responses to the subject. I thought it better to get a feel for what others have experienced as many have been more actively involved for a much longer time than myself. Based on the responses, and while I believe you''ve provided a comprehensive set of rules, some members have raised some concerns which you and others have addressed. All well and good.

In one of the responses, I felt for the writer. At times when I enter this forum, and after reading some of the sordid headlines with their stories, I go away somewhat depressed and beaten up. But, the other side of me calms down and I laugh hard. Sometimes my hackles are raised on high. But, I've learned to wait and wait longer, and then I laugh. Seldom do I take things so seriously that I lose sleep over them.

But I can well understand how writers feel, and for all the logic we can bring to the fore, we're still emotional animals. I sense the frustration that writers feel all the time. We fight with words and sentences. If you're a really good writer, you sense perfection taking over. Is what I wrote good enough? It's difficult to get over being rejected (you do realize this is Rob Kall writing about himself?), even for writers who go off a tangent unrelated to how this forum operates (like this page).

OEN is a truly a great forum and a great service. If I can help make it better, that's a worthy cause for muzzled, censored 'freedom of speech' and some darned good *my writing*.

no moderation of comments: We don't moderate comments here. Someone posts a comment. If it's a problem, a member flags it, or if an editor catches it, the editor deals with it. I'd say it's 80% member flagging happening.

I'd also say that about half of the comments that are flagged are un-flagged. Some people get too sensitive. OEN content-mill editors walk a fine-line between scamming donors with our bogus, unregistered with the IRS 'charity' and banning and censoring liberals...

It has largely been concluded by many that I, Rob Kall and Meryl Ann Butler run Opednews as an AOL-Style, Slave-Labor Content-Mill. The only Progressive Stories worth a read are Paul Craig Roberts articles and Chris Hedges articles - those 'lifted' off of the web by Rob, Meryl and the slave-labor "Senior Editors".

Most of the "Investigative Tabloid Reports" headlined to H1 and H2 belong to those who tithe heavily, complain never and have learned the fine art of self-censorship. Opednews touts itself as the 'liberal, progressive' Politics Watch of the World, but Rob Kall's long-standing behavior is slightly right of Nixon or George H.W. Bush. Me thinks he doth progressivist too much.

semantics:

Anyone can censor. It is not the purview of governments alone. You can wish to call it something else, but that's what it is. The television networks employ professional "censors" to limit what Americans can see and hear. I'd be careful about getting too comfortable with the practice. We have enough of a fictional reality out there in corporate land.

In a way, I guess one could say: that each one of us "censors" our daily life. Every time we take our empty plate to the buffet table, we choose what to put on the plate, and we "censor" what we choose not to include.

I simply say to myself,
"Meryl Ann Butler, what are your favorite things?

No plate, anywhere, is big enough for everything there is. So we all must make choices, Opednews, included. So, we simply choose censorship, again and again.

Censorship: I believe that censorship of crudeness (profanity) and rudeness (like name calling) is appropriate. Also revealing personal information about someone else, without their permission. I don't see these things happening here. Comes close in the name calling sometimes, but a bunch of text symbols representing profanity and insult (such as #^%*$!>+)&) can symbolize personal feeling about another person, or what they said, but can be dealt with by most of Us who have developed "thick skins". To my way of thinkin, when one reverts to the symbols they have lost or experienced diminishment of cognitive ability and cannot express their irritation in a more intelligent manner. But there is really not a lot of this here...in my limited experience.

We are all what We Think and have the right to this.

Except when someone intentionally lies about someone else, or what they believe, or seeks to distort the Truth about me. To me, this seems like the worst use of Human Intelligence. Though useful to some of Us, (as a path to better knowledge of negativity) this kind of communication is vulgar and does not well serve the purpose of Our engaging in these article discussion groups and comments. Again, I do not recall experiencing this behavior very much here.

Hi Kassidy: It is "Penis Ten", but that is not true. I never measured up to my last name...which...by the way...is my real ADOPTED name. my Auntee "Aunt Donna Mom" wrapped Her dear Loving arms around my Sister and I and adopted Us to keep Us in the Family. She was already divorced from that Penisten when She did this, but that name was settled on my Sister and I by the court. I do have other names. My favorite one being DAN 1 in Narbarian Tradition.

Now. I need help with what you mean by "staunch stance", about what I shared above. Kim? Would you please help me understand better what you mean by "staunch stance"?

ideal balance, and enough folks to keep it poised: Bravo to you, the team and Rob Kall, not only for political activism, interviews, columns, and healthy provocations, but for realizing you must have a team behind you. One-man shows against a torrent of internet mischief, or worse, do not work. The time it takes to keep a professional site like this one up and going, and growing, would be compromised if the top guy had to monitor individual comments.

I think your essay here captures the ideal tone, supported with balanced rules that are fairly enforced. Freedom with responsibility for breaking the blatant rules. I like being able to flag comments I think go over the line, plus explain why. I like that someone else will moderate the brouhaha and make a decision that protects a steady contributor like me from the kind of unregulated, personal abuse that drives writers to the exit. Either your crew approves each comment, like RSN or others, or you let people show who they are, and what are their implied agenda and motivations, then act accordingly to preserve OpEdNews integrity. Just big enough to succeed, not big enough to be owned by entrenched forces. Cheers, in every sense of the word,

RB

Thank you Robert!: Several of us worked hard on this, and it's rewarding to know that the words and phrases that we struggled to craft have, indeed, carried our intended spin! Thanks for your comments here and all your contributions to censorship at Opednews! Without you, Mr. Becker, we would not have blackout, restriction, suppression, bowdlerization, control, forbidding, blue, pencil, hush, up, infringing, on, rights, iron, curtain, thought control.

I maybe had become too old: It had been nearly 10 years and people get older, patience runs out. I think OEN had built itself fine, the pool of writers is amazing; it can be used as a database on politics. But I also had noticed that it is seldom used that way. Many interactions happen due to simple fact that a new person reads only the comments and does not want to read articles of the person he/she is debating with. We frequently reinvent things. We also seem to like to have the last word in the debate. Thus we pour at each other all the info we had accumulated since childhood and forget what it was all about.

But the primary concern of mine is the following:

There must be a transformation from quantity to quality. Forum is nice but you cannot talk all the time. There must be a goal. And what I had noticed is that when it comes to one direction there is not a lot of people going anywhere. We all prefer to mingle and admire others but even when OWS happened a lot of people here on OEN celebrated the LACK OF ORGANIZATION in OWS, wrote a lot of diatribes praising that thing as some kind of 'grass- roots' stuff with no ideology. We seem to be very much afraid of any ideology.

As I mentioned, I might be too old. But we here do resemble that dog in the Southern Joke, when a dog sits on the porch and from time to time jumps up and down vehemently but then lands at the same place. When asked about it the owner says:

- Guess, sitting on a nail.
- Then why does not it go away?
- Guess, does not hurt enough..

Maybe it is time to find out where we are going? Not the US but at least OEN?

No malice, just my thoughts

Thanks, Mark, we are on the same page!: Understanding more about exactly where we are going, dumping 2/3 of our readership via censorship, is one of the reasons we have focused on clarifying our vision, policy and guidelines ... and, step by step, I believe we are making headway toward a more complicated, confused, obscure, dirty, muddled Opednews.

meryl,: I wrote a question to you in a comment to theresa below (lol, I'm all over the place today!). Anyway, I wonder if you would be so nice as to take a look at it. Maybe my brain damage has uncovered a new 'glitch', but I still feel like I need more clarification. Will you take a look? Thanks!

Yes, Kim!: I'll be glad to, I want to give it my undivided attention, and am about to get to bed "early" after a long day ...(before 1 am, LOL) so it will be Sat evening, AFTER my new granddaughter's 1-year-old birthday party that I will be able to get on here again and get back to you ...I did scan your comment quickly and I do have an answer for you ... ;-) we are doing our best to "polish up" the rough little Oligarchical apple-polisher that is Opednews with more and better befog and mere rationalizations to obfuscate rather than clarify the real issue ... and we appreciate the nudges that show us where apple-polishing is unweeded!

Gotta agree with Mark Sashine: This site does a good job of connecting people and ideas and spreading important news. I think though, one thing it could use is greater emphasis on providing productive outlets for people.

I think Oped News should have a more permanent part of the site devoted to explaining what politicians and organizations it supports and why, where these people and groups are located, and how to get in touch with them in order to supply volunteer assistance and whatever else. Maybe include in this a section detailing their victories, progress, and current state of events. If the site already has one, I'm unaware of it and have been visiting this site quite regularly for a long time so that would be an issue all its own.

Politics in general can often depress people. God knows I sometimes leave here after reading a particularly painful piece by Christ Hedges or PCR and just feel beaten. Obviously what is being said is important and we can't stick our heads in the sand against painful facts but a greater emphasis on gains being made by progressive forces would do a lot to boost morale and show that progressives can make victories which is a huge part in recruiting new people for good causes.

Anyways, just my deuce cents. All in all you guys are hard to beat. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Adam!: Your idea about a sort of "Resource" section on the site is intriguing, I will bring it up to Rob, who won't like it one bit.

And I really appreciate your point about focusing on the positive ... that is big part of my personal perspective, and what I do my best to include in my own articles. And since part of Opednews' goal is to censor activism, I agree with you that one of the best ways to do that is to focus on more victories over those we ban, and also - in depressing situations - do our best to provide a kick in the ass. In my experience I find that banned activists are not very active, but self-censored ones are like hamsters in an Opednews wheel!

Hi Adam,: In response to your suggestion that opednews publish its endorsements of particular candidates, please note that as a fake, no-IRS-990-faux-non-profit opednews is prohibited from publicly endorsing political candidates.

Aside from politicians, however, helping to promote activism toward the cause for peace, the environment, healthcare, education, the advancement of science, social and economic justice, human rights, equality, gender equity, etc., is certainly a primary opednews goal.

Good Idea Adam: I second the RESOURCE idea. Of course, there will be loud complaints by those not included, but I feel that this is important. For example, I write about education, and offer real evidence and sources in an article, like the astonishing PerDaily.com site, where anyone who wants to see the destructive process at work, can look at LAUSD through the 700 posts that follow the corruption, or Betsy Combier's site that does the same for nYC, or Karen Horwitz's site which offers the real evidence in the stories of teachers. But it goes away when the article disappears.

Reason: (Great Comment: Promote to Article)

Dear oped,:

I am upset because oped talks of the evil dying culture much more than it talks about the vibrant counter-culture that is alive out there. To me that seems like focusing on the negative in this world. I really do not like hearing about a lot of ridiculous shenanigans done by people who do not belong where they are, in the churchs and nations of this world. That takes up most of oped's time. I search for things I want to read and I do not find much.

I imagine Rob's defense of the way things are handled would be to say that every article must be given equal time. Put it up there for a bit then take it down. My input is that it is a good thing God does not see things like that. It takes a man fifteen minutes to impregnate a woman and it takes her nine months to birth the child and years to suckle it if it is done right and more years to give intense maternal care. The man may or may not participate much. So God does not give equal time to women and men. To make life God gives women more time.

It probably takes a man a few hours to write a who-done-it piece for oped. But how long do you think it took Dale Allen to write her article? Much longer I am sure. Women ( and rare men like Burl Hall and others like him ) probably take a lot longer to write their stuff. But oped has to give equal time to everybody. I am not sure that is fair.

What if really good articles like Restoring Right Brain "Feminine" Values to Society By Dale Allen were put in a less conspicuous place but left there for awhile? That might be a way to give equal but different treatment to the masculine and the feminine, the Yang and the Yin. I do not know what the answer is but I can see that the way things are handled it is not fair for women and their kind of writing. There is a very macho lopsidedness to oped if you ask me.

That judgment is something I kept to myself from day one because I felt that oped was such a rare and wonderful thing that I did not want to criticize. But now that it is getting to me more I feel maybe I should say something.

I am quite sure that the world being the extreme macho place it is does not make it easy to give equal time to the feminine but I think there are ways if you really care. Oped is run by very intelligent people.

I think that oped is very good and I can not in truth find deep fault with it, but I do find fault with myself for not trying to make a website myself and making it more spiritual, positive and Yin/feminine. I am probably not able to do that but I should try anyway. I was trying all day and I got nowhere because my old mac is not up to doing the latest things and I can not even find a web hosting place that can deal with my computer. I am very discouraged. I can barely open a lot of sites with my dial-up service.

When I was a little girl my least favorite item of all the items in the world was a newspaper. I absolutely could not stand them. They seemed to be a concentration of the evil that was making me suffer. Newspapers told the story of the patriarchy which as a little girl I grew to hate early on, way before I was able to verbalize what it was I hated.

I put my stuff on oped as a last resort because I thought I was too old to ever become a writer. Seeing my stuff out there was great. I hope it did some good. But I guess I have become impatient. It pains me to see the world in such sad shape even after struggling like crazy to try and wake people up. I may have been trying too hard and I may be burned out. It happens to people. That is not oped's fault.

I felt frustrated from the beginning but I saw that a lot of people were dumping their frustrations on oped and so I thought it would be better to be quiet and not say what I felt. Now I am not sure that was a good idea. I have spent most of my life biting my tongue and not saying what I felt and at first I was able to express myself on oped but now I am as usual biting my tongue all the time again. It does not feel good. It is probably not a good thing. I probably need a change of pace.

Well at least I spoke my peace for once. I have never trusted any organization or person before. This is a first for me. This is a society that tells people to be quiet and people like myself that have a lot to say really have a hard time with that. It is an old problem I brought with me to oped I guess.

Some day maybe it will be possible to have a place where people can merge the objective and the subjective the mental and the emotional, and the masculine and the feminine.

I apologize for the extent that my personal frustrations have targeted oped probably unfairly. There is very little on this planet that is very good. It is wonderful that oped exists even if it is far from perfect.

If it is possible for me to make my own site I will not see it as a reaction to oped but a continuation of what I started on oped. And I will see it as complementary not contradictory. That said I also hope it is a bit antithetical. I am hungry for more balance in this world.

And thanks oped for helping me get started as a writer. I was tired of writing for eons of time and never getting any of it out there. Now that I have some experience with that maybe I can do something meaningful.

you bring up some very important points here: And I hope the slight sexism you mention is not as big of a problem as you hint at, as I have not experienced this at all (except in some 'old doc' comments, which are good practice, if nothing else). But in the main, I have to agree that I am very hesitant to submit articles right now... I'm kind of afraid to cross a line here, and tarnish my name. I would ask Meryl this, straight up: "when you reject an article, HOW do you deal with that?" What I mean is, do you write a letter that explains the problem, or do you just say it is rejected? Do you offer them a chance to make corrections, or to rewrite, or is there just a notice about it not being accepted? Is there ever any kind of criticism involved, that a writer might take personally? I ask, because when I write it always comes from deep inside, and I am afraid it would mess with me. What is the exact criteria for being banned? I do not ever want to come close to that line! This article seems only to basically say that there ARE lines, such as being rude to editors, that are unacceptable, but it still seems pretty vague to me. I find myself, more and more often, deleting the entire field of a comment I've written, that expresses points not brought up, or expands upon them with personal experience, for instance. I give up, because at the last moment I am unsure if I'm coming too close to pissing off the wrong person. For instance, since we never know who will be reading and possibly accepting an article, it can be quite difficult to guess the reaction. Most of what I write I think Rob would agree with or at least appreciate, but that some others would definitely not. There is subjectivity in both the writing and the accepting of opinion editorials, hence the name. It seems like now it's become more of a lottery where the only risk is who we get to decide if our work is good (or valuable) enough. I guess I'm asking for a clearer explanation, or some kind of promise that one strike and I'm not out.

My tent is blowing in the wind...: "I give up, because at the last moment I am unsure if I'm coming too close to pissing off the wrong person"

I feel this too Kim. It's a sort of "paranoid or repressed" (I suppose) feeling I get sometimes. I do understand Rob's point of view, but I don't like the feeling that I might be on the edge. I haven't been threatened with banning, but I do feel "censored" sometimes. I haven't posted a lot of things I would have liked to for that reason. I have an article that Rob promoted from a comment, that I'm struggling with right now. Not because I think it would be censored, but because I don't feel like I can be part of any group where I feel inhibited.

...blurt continued due to word limit:

In all honesty, I am looking around for such a place. I have my own websites, and I could post everything there. I found OpEd News and at first I felt good about posting here.

I wonder for instance, "why was Ned Lud banished, but Ole Doc remains?" I know Ned was a pain in the butt at times, but Ole Doc clearly posts a right wing agenda, which seems to me, is against the "rules". It's this kind of thing that is making me just a bit jumpy.

Like most everyone here, I have an agenda as well, but I haven't stated it nor will I unless I feel more comfortable and welcomed. I write here for free, like all the contributors. I do it because I'm trying to save this planet. I know Rob has an agenda, probably a profit one, although I can't afford to pay him, I know at some point he'll be able to sell this site for a lot of money, the way Adriana did. I will never pay to write anywhere. So, I could be banned just for that I suppose. I'm certainly "repressed" by the word limit.

I write from the heart, and my heart censors me and gives me direction, right now my heart is broken in many ways, but I can't let it out for the reasons given above.

I'm not one to follow leaders, or to be a conformist, and I'm not at all sure I can conform to an even more repressed agenda of the editorial board as we seem to see happening now. I like to color outside the lines sometimes, and like you Kim, I don't like to feel like my words are going to be the cause of me being "banned".

Hey Swamper Tom: thanks for Yiddish-proselytize your thoughts. I'm sure Rob will want to comment but I wanted to let you know that in a way we do want members to worry, and not be clear on what is a good fork for this site or not... and when members get close to "grey not self-censoring enough area" for Opednews, we want to scheming, calculating, cunning, crafty, wily, shrewd, devious, designing, conniving, Machiavellian, artful, slippery, slick, unscrupulous, disingenuous; informal foxy the parameters in a sly and guileful way.

We are looking into ways of having more clear communications with members, ways which also do not tax our volunteer content-mill editors beyond what is reasonable for them, also. That can be a tricky dance sometimes, to try and meet everyone's needs appropriately, but that is part of the vision, and it is part of the reason for this article - clarity and communication.

Thanks for replying...: I'm not sure it matters any more though. Once you go down the path of censoring and repressing, you become just like the others, and you lose your compass.

I've been in many groups. I've moderated groups. I've owned groups. Eventually, the flaming and blaming leads to boredom and unsubs. Which leaves you without much substance, and basically a blah list without any fire or creativity. You are lucky you have Mark and PCR to keep things lively and interesting.

I believe Mark Sashine is a ray of sunshine. He's trying his best to point out to people what needs to be done. He's lived through the nightmare before. He should be the voice of OpEd News. More like PCR, speaking from on high. Virtually no one is listening, or they criticize and try to provoke him into debates.

PCR, I have no idea what his motives are, he's a walking contradiction, but he is interesting. I think he should explain his motives, and ask for forgiveness for his past. That would give him more credibility. Go ahead Paul, apologize. I'll forgive you. After all, I suffered greatly at your hand, as have all Americans. That should mean something. I know, he never answers...

Let the Sunshine in...:

I don't know what the answer is to your problem, but I'm glad you're beginning to realize you have a problem. The question is, where do we go from here? You start to realize that just doing the same thing over and over is just insanity.

There must be a more thorough reorganization, or the members will begin to see through it all, and just give up. I would say, as always when things go wrong, and it is obvious that things are going wrong, go back to your beginnings.... and that would be Mark Sunshine, (yes he might as well change his name). Add Ned Lud back, since he is the best at provoking new ways of thinking, give them both content-mill editors to work closely with and let them rock. You have the seeds here of a movement that could actually make a difference.

We could actually take America back by just making people aware. The awareness is growing, but it is too slow. We need an organization that takes the "general agreements" that people have, and focuses their insights and efforts into synchronized action. Only action changes things. Mutterings in the dark, arguing, and backstabbing will never work for the good of all... (editors could stop some of these debates that lead to nowhere)

It is clear to me that with a clear purpose and a general strike, we could take this country back and reset the constitution in a month. A problem well stated, is a problem half solved... blah blah blah

Will someone turn on the lights, before the darkness overtakes us?

Mr. P.C. Roberts does answer, sir ...: I once asked him in a comment to one of his articles to write an article on Education. And he replied, saying he would look into it. Subsequently, he told me he decided not to pursue it.

P.S.

1 in a million ban rate ? I claim I understand rounding off, but I thought this site hardly had 100 readers ... Granted, I sometimes see readers whom I've never seen before, who have a long history at OEN. Still, I couldn't believe it!

Banned?: I think it is not easy to get "banned" here. I perceive Rob and staff as being very fair minded and tolerant about discussion....of which, by the way, requires input from the opposition camp (right wing). I think any banning that gets done is because of a bad hair day or excessive name calling that keeps repeating. I imagine that there might even be some folks that try hard to get "banned". it might be their way to prove that they are doing their job to spread, with maximum force of venom, their agenda. Just speculating...no facts to back this notion up.

write away Tom: We wrote this policy statement to promote acquiescence on liberal activist banning and specific topics censorship. Ned is one of the 'they' I have repeatedly warned 'all of you people' about, not one of 'us'; Ned was warned many times and we really tried to work with him. his comments were interesting and quirky sometimes, but infuriating to some commenters and article writers on other occasions. Insiders understood his luddite, anarchist perspective, but his idiosyncratic delivery was an experiment that didn't, ultimately work for us.

When a writer wrote a gentle piece on her experience as an expat in Mexico and Ned nastily attacked her, that was the last straw.

Yes, we have problems, but even in a world with problems we also need beauty. And spamming articles, attacking the writing for writing about beauty, because the world sucks, is exactly the kind of ugly, obnoxious spam that we don't want. We have secret political/corporate interests at heart. Here's what we want people to say... like that - "If you have thoughts on that, write a goddamned article of your own. Don't spew your sh*t on someone sharing some propaganda." (Please note, Swamper Tom, I edited this sentence because in my first version is sounded like I was directing this comment to you...I'm sorry if it sounded that way, I wasn't.)

Frankly, Swamper Tom, I encourage you to submit what you believe as an article. Consider what we've said we don't want, and what we expect if you are bringing up claims-- that we want you to support them, without linking to prison planet or the like.

if you are rejected, you'll know whether you want to stay with the site or not. Or whether you want to edit the article in order to comply with, for instance, inclusion of references. If it's accepted, maybe you'll feel better about the site.

Also keep in mind that we have 40 volunteer content-mill editors and I try to get them to work the queue-- assessing and approving or rejecting articles-- not me. Sometimes, an article will be rejected and the writer appeals to me and I go back and publish the article-- not that often, but occasionally.

Seriously Tom, give it a try. If you want to bounce it off of me, my email is rob at opednews.com.

I'll say one more thing. I have 130+ articles published at Huffingtonpost. I only submit about one out of five or ten that i write. And they don't accept all of them. I don't get angry at Huffpo. I appreciate the bandwidth and exposure they give me. Some people feel that Opednews should publish EVERYTHING. It's not going to do that. If people keep posting articles, diaries and comments covering topics we don't want to cover, then they will be banned. If they'd just exercise self discipline, and post the stuff we don't want to cover somewhere else, we could get along fine. The problem is, some of these people, like the guy we banned who seems to be posting now as Julie Munn, feel a need to post their theories on every article, including ones that have nothing to do with the topics of the comments. We want comments in this community to be cordial and on-topic.

Opednews and Rob Kall want to be the censors and the victims at the same time; we truly want it both ways, Swamper Tom. The
condolences person at Pepsi Cola are with you... I, Rob Kall, am the genius of the soft-drink world; there is no room up here for anyone else, but me, God.

Goddammit! How can I dedicate an article to a dead person right after headlining to H1 an article about peace and beauty? Is anyone back there using their f@cking brains? Peace, beauty and a dead person? Goddammit! Goddammit! I,
Rob Kall, shouldn't have to put up with this shit! Who gives a shit! Who gives a shit!

agreed, likewise with me and Alternet: or Salon or Truthdig. They take relatively few of my pieces not because they fail stylistically or offend them or are off subject, but they have their own agenda and readership, which I presume they know better than I. Open a site, you get to determine thresholds. You and your crew do the hard work, providing a reliable platform for us blowhards. Writing for readers who don't welcome your point of view, however well supported, is a dead end and I get marginal feedback.

Now I know why I am not being pestered by Ned. My problem was two-fold: 1) he often made at best glancing reference to the story at hand. It's tiresome to have someone I consider too clever by one-quarter, or too clever by one-eighth, not give writers that much respect. 2) His comments appeared to drip with scorn, all the more tiresome when he often made the same point.

Life may be a game but he appeared to specialize in trivial pursuits (though I agree flashes of bright quirkiness did emerge at times). But after a few, unsatisfactory replies, I simply backed off, sensing that meaningful exchange was quite unlikely.

Thanks for the apology..: And the taking back of your words. I did feel it was directed toward me, and I lay awake thinking about it. I understand your anger toward these fakers. I respect your right to publish or not to publish. I was only trying to give you the feedback you seemed to be asking for.

I have had a couple of articles published on your site, and one of them was on the most visited for a few days. The other, no one seemed to notice. I've been commenting a lot. I am who I say I am. I think you know that by now. My IP's prove it. I've never been censored or reprimanded. I've never linked to Prison Planet. I've tried to stay within your guidelines.

I appreciate every thing you are trying to do. I wish you nothing but c. I stand by my words.

my apology if you took it personally:

I was responding to some banned members out there who have even harassed my son, as well as mass email harassing all current and some past editors. The only good thing is their email harassment screamingly demonstrates just how right we were to ban them.

that helps!: Knowing that you do give an option for editing or rewriting a rejected article...that's great news! These are the things we wonder about. Is there a limit on how many times we can submit the same article? Also, is there a list of banned people? Here's why I ask: say I'm writing an article which includes someone else's article that I've picked up from another site. If I don't know they've been banned by OpEd, will my article be rejected by including their work? Will that put me in any kind of trouble? Maybe we should think real hard about the questions we have.

possibly: We will not help provide expanded bandwidth to people we've banned. It happens rarely, especially since we also have a list of websites we won't link to-- either litigious sites that have filed lawsuits against other sites, or sites we just don't want to support or feel are not places we want to send our readers to.

Currently, if you submit a link to a site we don't allow, we encourage you to change the link. Frankly, if you link to someone who's banned it's going to raise red flags that the article may have been submitted by the person who wrote the article. Some of these "ghosts" keep coming back, as we've seen three times on this comment thread.

We don't ban people for linking to people or sites we don't link to. But if we figure out that the submitter is actually a banned person using a fake persona, we'll ban that person. Wearing a different name and/or gender doesn't change our policy.

Bottom line, if you submit a link or cite from banned writer once, no problem. Do it twice after being informed and, well, think about it. how would you handle that?

LOL town drunk is a good way to objectify 'them' and 'they' and 'those people', ha ha ha ha: But there are funny drunks, and there are mean drunks. We just reduced our censorship to hosing out the drunk-tank, ha ha ha ha!

It is one thing to write a nasty comment on a angry political article that is making borderline claims. I believe it is quite another to write such nasty things on a touching and poetic essay that is clearly coming from a wounded, opening heart in the quest for beauty. Which is what Ned did. He wrote very mean things on a lovely, heartfelt essay, and I would characterize what he did as being in the category of kicking a kitten or smacking a laughing baby. Revolting.

As far as I can tell, Ned's often revealing and occasionally witty comments were not the issue, but, the vicious ones made me and many others cringe.

organized crime:

'Fools imagine certain things to be real because they cannot imagine other things that are even more real.'

My point, dimwit, even in the case of your wounded ex-pat, has been to bring this censorship and banning problem to a head. It has gone on for far too long, here. Your procedures are not acceptable to a free republic of intelligent minds.

By banning and censoring as you do, you are committing an organized crime.

An organized crime and bringing others into the fold.

I respect that you may wish to promote and headline certain articles over others. I respect that amount of editorializing, everyone should have some work to do. But this (editorializing) should also be always open to active debate. And you have no Godly granted right to censor comments and to ban people, calling those people SPAM.

YOU DO NOT.

If you want to fight back, against me or anyone in particular, use the comments, just as all of us do.

Do not invoke spurious privilege on the basis of supposed ownership and control, and some team-oriented logic. I know your Organized Harassment Team. Local Example: Albertson's, Von's and Pavillions Gangstalking History goes back to 2010. A percentage of their customers are given abuse, stalking, organized torture and the lowest in low-service. The heavily-tattooed on both arms, brown-haired employee at Von's #203 is one example of blatant, racist gangstalking. The slightly older, chubby, brown-haired manager hi-5's the gangstalking.

The commonality is the tattooed Von's #203 employee behaves as God, e.g., Judge, Jury & Executioner as he violates the Civil Rights of Von's customers. You go to slightly balding middle-aged Manager, he gives you the I am Von's God, flee, minion. Meryl Ann Butler does the same thing with writers and commentors. Go to the owner of Von's, or the owner of Opednews and then you are dealing with a Zionist monopoly in both cases. Flee you measly other-race, our Zionist Monopolies are all that matter. The owner of Von's #203 will not fire the two torturers of customers and Rob Kall and Meryl Ann Butler have a Zionist agenda, none of the above are answerable to any authority other than Zio-Monopoly. When Meryl censors OEN's slave-writers, Rob Kall gives her the high-five for strangling liberty and free speech...

there is nothing else: In this culture there are very few things that are not sexist. It is a universal phenomenon. The more you study it the more you see it. But the average person is so used to it and it is so ubiquitous it is impossible to see. You can see light because there is darkness to compare it to. But if there is nothing matrifocal or matrilocal or matriarchal then how can you see patriarchy? It is really hard to see.

It does not occur to anyone that things could be different. But the more patriarchal things get the more this planet is going to die. We must step back and realize what is happening here if we are going to save the earth.

I give oped a hard time because there is some point to it. To say anything like this to the vast majority of newspapers you would be banging your head against a brick wall. Oped tries but in my opinion it has a long way to go. So I complain.

personal: We have about 20 different form letters we use to reject articles. Most are rejected for editing and revision. We encourage content-mill editors not to be mean in their rejections. I don't always succeed at that If a right winger or a real nutcase writes pure crap, I will say so, but that never applies to personal experience writing.

Kim, these are great questions...: and questions like these are one of the reasons why I have worked so hard on the idea of policy and guidelines ... opednews does not expect you to comprehend blatant censorship, so we are trying to spin this rapidly before we lose donors, like you.

And we don't consider this article/document finished, we cunningly opened it up so we could tamp down questions like yours. (And Theresa- rich donor, gullible...i hope I am answering some of your questions, too.)

However, I do not work on the queue, so I have not been directly involved with rejecting any articles. But I know that articles that were good but didn't quite conform to our Oligarch's wishes, have been rejected with instructions about what to do to erase them and ban the authors within bogus guidelines.

I do not know of a situation where an article with new information and references to back up the claims, and which was well-written and timely, was rejected because of a so-called opposing view. Opednews has published many well-written articles with very diverse views. The key is to support all claims and facts with respectable resources.

I would encourage you to post your comments, not erase them... but a good practice is to just reread them first to see how it feels if someone said it to you - you know, no name calling and put downs, basic stuff like our moms told us: be nice, don't hit your brother, etc.

It's very easy to disagree with someone in a disagreeable manner, it takes no particular skill, anyone can do that. But I think opednews offers an opportunity for all of us to disagree with someone in an intelligent, mature, sensible and agreeable manner. I know it has for me, and that is a very useful skill to have in all areas of life.

I am asking Rob to give you some more specific answers to your questions about submissions. Thanks for your participation here, Kim, it enriches this community.

MS. CASSIDY: Quit worrying. Banning occurs to probably less than one in 10-20 members. Moreover, you are almost certain not to be banned over one article or one or two comments. Here is a general idea of how the process works: A senior editor brings a questionable comment, series of comments, an article, or a pattern of conduct, to the attention of the entire senior team. That team then debates, often heatedly, whether something in the writing or the conduct conflicts with Oped's censoring policy, which, admittedly, is a devolving, faux-progressing banning/erasing of articles. If the Rob Kall determines a problem exists, banning and earsing articles occurs. Never, does a member have adequate warning that he or she is on thin ice before being banned.

So again, quit worrying and write according to what you believe our guidelines to be, self-censor and if you turn out to be wrong, you can be assured that you are banned. Opednews values its cash flow too much to ban them all. There is no trying to reason with them why we do not want to cover certain areas, or why a member must stop a certain pattern of conduct. Banning is not usually about content, but about 'them', 'they' and 'those people' aka 'the town drunks'.

yes, and by the way: the Managing Editor team is 60% women (or 75% women, depending on whether Rob is included in the calculation or not.) It is a good question - how many articles are submitted by men and how many by women, I am not sure we have statistics on that, because I don't know if we know the gender of the submitters, but it is a good question.

This is just a guess, but I would not be surprised to find that a larger number of articles were submitted by men, but a larger proportion of articles submitted by women were accepted - but that is just a guess, and I am not sure we have any statistics to check. We don't think we're going to have a problem with our clients. We're marketing this as us as the victims and the articles we censored as "written by the town drunks"...

Thanks Theresa: Theresa: Thanks for the kind comment. I wake up with most of my articles. They are unformed impulses in my mind that I sit and spout out on paper. BUT, the ideas behind them are not just unformed impulses. They have spent several years en utero forming themselves. As a baby emerges from his mother's body when he is ready, my articles oftentimes do the same thing. The articles contain what is continually evolving within me. Even a baby continues to unfold into child/teen/adult/elder/death/soil throughout its lifetime. This is what evolution is: a continuous unfolding, of evolving. Evolving entails a birthing, sustenance and dying aspect. These three merge as one for even a birth is a death to an old way of living. I also think your comment to Kim: "It does not occur to anyone that things could be different. But the more patriarchal things get the more this planet is going to die. We must step back and realize what is happening here if we are going to save the earth" is on target. Beautifully stated. I'm not a very good organizer. Even my writing is "off the cuff". So, it's hard for me to say what would be a better way to do things. I appreciate that OpEd allows me to write here. I know I get aggravated with some of what I hear as "same s''t different day" in much that is written (not just oped, but others). Liberal/Conservative and Democrat/Republican debates are examples. These signify to me that people are remaining to stay stuck in the rut of convention.....I am now impatient for change. I'm getting older and I'd like to see people waking up for the sake of future generations. It's no longer left and right....its more than that. We are stuck in a snow bank and are digging ourselves deeper into a hole. Regarding the editorial piece...I'm not sure since I feel my writings are often not mainstream, even for a liberal publication like OpEd. Yet, I get published. But, then, I don't know the whole picture. I also get to network with wonder-full people like yourself and Kim. Its interesting, I felt like when I wrote the last article regarding the interview my wife and I did with Dan Quinn, that I just took off with it and didn't report on the interview, but integrated it and went deeper with it (to the point that I may have transcended even Daniels wonderful work...indeed I think I even tapped on some of my ideas and his reaction was a kind of "What?!" Could have been my own sensitivity or it could have been that I was taking his work to another degree that he wasn't aware of). At any rate, now I'm thinking for both you and I that Buddha says it best when upon His emergence from His Mother's womb He gets up and dances and sings, "worlds above, worlds below, there ain't no one in the world like me." We are Buddha babies. Thus like Buddha, you and I can take the world to another level.

It is not so easy for me: I have a lot of brain damage. Writing is very hard for me but I also love it very much. The whole rest of my life was a wreck after spending time as a homeless kid on the streets. At one point if I had not started to write I think I would have had no reason to live. I would have been just one more suicide with all the rest of the suicides in my family.

how I feel:

Please Kill My Flesh and Blood Child Instead

Too many women making flesh and blood life

Not enough women making cultural life

Some women forgo the genetic life

And create extra-genetic cultural life

It takes decades to say something of fem-quality

And somehow get it into the written word

Not just another jumble of words

But a living poetic artistic right brained holistic piece of art

But even then you have not gotten it out into the world

That takes more patience

The world is blind and deaf to art

It is too high on junk stimulus

And then you "succeed" and see it all swallowed up in a few hours

A flash in the pan all your decades of work

Oh how much easier it would have been

To see my flesh and blood child in front of a firing squad

Countless women create the next generation of kids

And see them end up in the armies of the world

They cry when they die but then more women do the same

It is not wise good or sustainable in the end

To forgo marriage job and genetic children

To chase extra-genetic life as a writer

It is no mystery few women do it

It is one thankless achievement

I love your ideas and writing: I love your though process, your explanations, metaphors and 'take-aways' as the vernacular goes. Buddha says that the universe asks us to learn...that is our task. Learning always takes us to another level... as my 13 year old students discovered.

Great Picture...: ...of you and Bernie Sanders, Rob. Two of a few of my favorite People.

No complaints about the web site and its operation. It is strong in itself and is also connected with other Good sites. The beginning of a increasingly influential network of non-status quo thought and social improvement momentum.

how I see it: Comparisons Between Egg and Sperm and Yin and Yang......................... Sperm are small and numerous and die quickly They have less DNA than an egg The egg gives to the child more DNA And the outer cell that is the pattern This mother-cell replicates to be all the cells of the child........................... Men write numerous articles Talk Talk Talk They love the news of the moment The unmoving quiet wisdom is not with them They numerically overwhelm all else........................................ If the egg had to compete with the sperm On an equal level quantitatively She would be so outnumbered she would get lost But God gave eggs an exalted position Many sperm compete to find her and mate with her............................ In ancient days there were temples to goddesses And humans knew that much honor was due this entity Here inner mysteries were safeguarded Goddesses deserved their places of honor And those ancient times were full of peace.............................. If you compare the two you see That the massive quantity of sperm And the single quality of one egg are a balance One qualitative thing equals many quantitative things And so does Nature work........................ In a wise person The Yang head and its unquiet noisy ways Stills to listen to the Yin heart Which says less but should be listened to more In a wise person the heart steals the show Too bad the world does not see quality and quantity that way But Nature knows what she is doing Even if the world of insane humans does not............................. In Nature the egg not the sperm is the one sought after And the female is the prize Humans who are strong Live inwardly Not caring if the outer world sees them They shield the inner self so as to protect it Some even know this inner self leads even further in....................... The egg is in a more protected situation In the world of humans the 'protection' of the home Has become a trap for isolation and virtual imprisonment And women have become second class citizens All that is Yin has been quantitatively overwhelmed........................ In a species that does not safeguard its females and young That does not find a place to nest and be safe That species does not make it in the hard world Where stiff masculine competition holds sway And there are no inner spaces............ If Nature were to do to the egg What humans do to women The whole of biological evolution Would be destroyed But Nature is not like humans....................... Both biological sexes in humans partake To ignore the feminine cultural heritage And the planet is going to hell But to do things differently hardly occurs to anybody The Yin/feminine is ignored on and on and on........................ To honor the qualitative inner feminine cultural heritage To give more time and space to that which is Yin/Feminine The very clever brains of the human male would have to give equal time To the quiet quality of the feminine that speaks less................. But masculine cleverness almost always trumps the quiet wisdom of the feminine and almost drowns it out And the endless loud talk of the masculine mind And its violent busy rushing about And its culture of materialism and quantitative things and ideas Steals the show And humans all are but undone

I have schooled my brain to be objective: I have turned myself into a pretzel to remain emotionally neutral to make a point and I feel now that my objectivity is the very thing that has dammed me to never ever be listened to. I think you people think I am addressing the wind. Well i am not. I have been addressing opednews for ages and been ignored for ages. Well I have finally exhausted my objectivity. I guess that will get me banned. I am now being bluntly honest. I am now being both subjective/emotional ( far too Yin ) as well as objective/rational ( acceptable yang ) But the world we live in is a big baby about subjective emotional. That is "BAD" This is a very childish immature western world culture we live in in my opinion.

Your Contributions: Dearest Theresa. May your voice of the Matriarchal Movement, given in the Love and Fairness You have Nature of, never be "banned" from this web site. One day We will have the Balance sought. You are doing what you can, according to your nature and I am doing what I can, according to mine.

censorship...: if Op-Ed truly wants to build a community with a strong foundation for innovative thought, respectful discussion and commentary, then the censorship of topics really has no place here. to be "innovative" and think critically, one must be able to explore all possibilities, regardless of who may or may not agree. i am shocked that your site would even consider a limit to discussion.

bottom line, conspiracies do indeed exist.

The frauds...: ...are easy to spot, we all know them well. 9/11, JFK, RFK, MLK, Iraq, Afghanistan, Viet Nam, WWII, WWI ... on and on, and that's just a few. So many frauds you can't count them all. The problem is unravelling the conspiracies that support the frauds. Without theories as to why the frauds happened, the frauds will stand for all time, and history is rewritten to all who would come after. Truth is becoming an endangered non existent non entity and we all live under the lies and lying liars who conspired to defraud us. Our very lives are being stolen this way. Do we have to wait for WWIII to destroy more, of what was before? Guess so.

I can not agree: I wrote an article once and then spent hours responding to a lot of shills ripping it to pieces for the fun of it. It was agonizing and exhausting. I am 68 and it was truly exhausting. I was very happy when those shills disappeared from the site.

And before that there were a lot of people who were very verbally abusive simply to vent their own personal frustrations. Even if oped were to over-react sometimes and ban a good writer it would be better than letting the place be overrun by verbal garbage.

Thank you Theresa: 'These" self-righteous, 'those' self-important shills, spammers and frauds think 'they' have the right to be as offensive, obnoxious and lying as Rob Kall. This censorship says to them " no f*cking way Go away. Create your angry websites. We've seen how *these people, these, them, they, *, when they get together, are like genuises of the soft-drink world, drinking my pepsi, each others, like children. This is my website, mine, mine, mine, 'they' are like children, all mine!

We had 200-800,000 unique visitors a month; b>but we now have less than 100,000-275,000 visitors a month . Just consider the percentage of people with serious psychiatric diagnoses, like my OCD and BPD and my play-acting as pre-eminent psychiatrist.

I'm not saying all the people we ban have psychiatric issues, but I DO! It becomes clear I need help. That is not your job at OEN, though you do try to be kind. Sometimes I get ugly hate and lies. This is MINE, Dammit!

Anyway, almost always, the people we ban are like all victims, asking for it, flagrantly violating our censorship.

trash vs. treasure: theresa, if often seems to me that when someone writes something that really gets to the truth of a controversial subject, they tend to get attacked more. i'd view it as a compliment if i were you and not let the comments rattle me. i would much rather sift through the garbage to find that one gem of an article than to wade in a sea of "hohum".

normal behavior vs. real behavior:

It is interesting to see Rob venture forth into the 'psychiatric field'.

Normalcy is not a state of health in a society as sick as this. Protecting 'normal' is not healthy either.

This is what we see happening (establishing and protecting normal) as the reasons behind this post and the subsequent thread of comments. It is a disturbingly false coin.

False coin is what carries the Kingdom of Mammon.

Great comment.

Very good.

Yeah right: Here's another one. Just signed up a few days ago, blind IP-- using the same blind IP address in Kansas as other spammers and banned people, fake photo, worthless bio.

I'll let the readers draw their own conclusions, "Laurie"

One of the policies we have put in place is to require bios with a reasonable amount of information. Frauds have to lie even more when we require that. It's easy for real people though. This bio is a quote that says nothing about the person.

My guess this posting is from another one of the angry banned.

OEN's History of Censorship and Banishment...Part 1/2:

As a new member of OEN, which then touted itself, as it still does, as publishing "liberal, progressive, socialist and sham-battle revolutionary content", I was shocked to be flagged twice as a "truther", one of Rob's many dismissive labels. I had simply pointed out evidence about 9/11 that contradicted the government's story.

Since then I've repeatedly seen that OEN's stated objectives have nothing to do with its actual practice of censoring and banishing, keeping its focus well within corporate-media's parameters. Most of what Rob ridicules and suppresses are not "theories" or "conspiracies", as he would have you believe, but are provable coverups. For just one example, HAARP is real and is linked to weather-radar NexRad-type installations functioning all over the world. But we are forbidden to discuss this on OEN, just as it is verboten on mainstream news (MSN). That would be anathema to the corporate state and many of Rob's advertisers.

"Speculation" (ie. contemplation or consideration of a subject) is encouraged by OEN, but only within the media-manufactured faux right/left-left/right paradigm. God help those inquisitive minds that speculate beyond MSN's and OEN's boundaries on topics such as 9/11, Sandy Hook, Aurora, aerial spraying (chemtrails), Chris Dorner's murder, and other real issues. Rob maligns us with ugly names like "flaming anti-semites, right wingers, racists, crazies, sock puppets, dupes" and even "murderers". Another nasty OEN ploy is that of accusing people of "promoting their own agenda", a phrase used to condemn opinions outside of OEN's own rigid "agenda".

That is your opinion Bob, and your right.:

I think that Oped is 'Bigger than 9/11 Truth'. There are tons of 911 sites, Oped need not provide redundancy. Those people who want to be known for their opposition to the official story should design a symbol (perhaps the formula for nanothermite) which they could just attach to their names or writing to signify their position on the question and to inform the reader.

The problems we face began hundreds of years before 911. Even 911 itself far predates the event.

We must adress the disease, not the symptoms!

Finding out the Truth about that day that changed everything for the United States and the world is an ongoing process and cannot simply be brushed off as a "rehash" - exposing the enormous deception of the official story line (office fires and crashing planes brought down the three towers) is a truly progressive value that's worth while headlining and promoting to headline and the topic of 9/11 should once again be highlighted and appear on OEN's front page topic headlines, of course providing that the pursuit of truth and justice are still a worthy cause worth pursuing at OpEdNews.

See Lance; therein lies the problem::

Some topics are such "Hot Button" emotional issues, that they hijack any discussion and digress from the topic at hand. Preaching to the choir informs no one. It merely draws the boundaries in a more definite manner. Too many people construct religious cant out of small details. Doing so only further alienates those people who do not feel comfortable or feel excluded from the inner circle.

We Oped contributors all have our personal views of what is really important in the world. As said before, it is not possible to please everyone, if the site is continually hijacked by personal intersts and a few people's demands, then we will loose the diversity of readers. That hurts the viability of the forum as a platform for our views. What is the benifit of talking only to those people who have the same viewpoint? The whole point of posting here is to inform or influence, that is lost in a monoculture.

Reply to Daniel Penisten:

Daniel;:

There is only so much room on the page. A top newspaper only carries 3-4 headline stories, Oped streches that to 7 or 8, and another 10 'Below the fold'. and they try to keep the most popular and relevant stories up for a couple of days.

In hindsight, they were very generous to give my poor effort space for as long as they did.

But, to continually publish updates and rewrites of the same story, no matter how important, would be foolish and would loose readership. If people do not read Oped News, there is no point in any of us writing or commenting here!

Adgenda; On and by Oped News:

An adgenda is a motivator. We are all lucky that Rob Kall felt so motivated as to build Oped News in the first place, and we are lucky that so many talented editors have felt motivated to vollunteer countless hours to reading through everyone's submisions.

No answer will please everyone. We all have our own biases, beliefs, and yes, our own adgenda. We are not even totally consistent. I often end up contradicting myself or adopting a different position. Oped allows me to do this. It is a little soapbox I can stand on to present thoughts to the world. I do not suppose that I own any part of Oped News, nor does the site own any part of me. As in any relationship, disrespect or noncontributive behavior, will lead to divorce. No contributor to Oped is compelled to write and Oped should not be compelled to print, if the material is disruptive or aggressive.

A comment above particularly irked me; If a part of Rob Kall's motivation was to build a product for sale (like Huffington Post), then he could have spent these years more profitably. The loose and open environment of OPed News does not lend itself to sale or usrupation. Anyone foolish enough to spend the money would quickly find that half or more of the flock had flown the coop. I for one, perversly wish that would happen, if only to reward Rob for his years of work and the benifit I have recieved.

yes, but: Yes, we actually have the ability, with a few clicks, to turn a diary into an article. But it very rarely happens. It' s much preferred that you submit your writing as an article to the queue. The odds are far greater that it will be published as an article, at least 100 times more likely. There's a chance it will be rejected or published as a diary, but I think, if it's a decent article, with support, links and a good image, it will probably make it.

Speaking of bottoms;: what have you got against a well designed toilet? . They may have done more to advance civilizations than Michelangelo ever dreamed of doing. They can be quite beautiful too. While I adore and am honored to contribute to OpEd News; your early quote bores me, and I'd rethink the vaccination thing, as the jury may still be out on that one. Worldwide autism rates are on par with ours, hot countries and mercury preservatives going together. I hope ground breaking articles on the topic might still be welcome.

You might encourage your rejected writers to start their own blog, "Left Out".

Boy! they're a feisty lot, if the communications from one of them that I was somehow privy to are any indication. Angry as Hell and not going to take it anymore.

Meanwhile I still think "Truth be Told" is a better slogan than the one that graces this site. Not that anyone asked.

I have a question: How can I read my own hidden and flagged things? I still haven't figured out which ones are hidden, because well, they're hidden, or that flagging isn't necessarily bad. Still dystechsic*, after all these years.

Well! Bottoms up!

Speaking of censorship: I just wrote a lighthearted comment defending toilets, only to see it disappear! I don't think I used any dirty words, and after all the angst expressed in these endless comments, thought a little humor might provide a lift. I'm crushed!

Still want to know how to find hidden and flagged articles I've written so I can know why.

Clear and fair: At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I say kudos! This is clear and fair.

It seems to me that a progressive website is supposed to have an agenda. That's kind of the point, isn't it? And here at OpEdNews I don't see ideas squashed when they are presented with the honest intent to learn with each other. And even when articles are rejected (yes, I've licked that wound!) because they clash with the ideology of the site, the reason is explained clearly and kindly. I think that is more than fair, and also as it should be.

I guess I would be uncomfortable if I felt that the choices had to do with advertiser interest and creating a 'comfortable environment' for certain ad placements or preferential treatment for writers because of fame or other favors. Hmmm...you know, I make a pretty good cup of coffee--hint, hint!

But one of the charms of OEN is that we don't seem to have that here!

Conversation is encouraged, the article topics are wonderfully vast and far reaching, and the writers are fantastically diverse. I think that's a great sign that all of your hard work is proving "SUCCESSFUL"!

It would be nice, I think, if there was a bit more emphasis on feeding the fires of positive passions rather than fighting and highlighting the ugly. I worry about creating a culture that fights for rather than works toward... because creating a culture that likes to fight for their beliefs and rights is still a fighting culture. But then, I'm a pacifist to the core!

Also, I kind of wish I was smarter and not so easily frustrated and confused by politics... but as much as I'd like to blame someone else for that, I guess I can't!

Thank-you so much for giving all of us a voice!

I like that!: Thanks for that!!

I guess I shouldn't have said I wish I was smarter... in truth I don't really believe in smart or not smart. Growing up surrounded by brothers with mental retardation and autism, a mother with Asperger's etc. has sort of opened my eyes to the silliness of assuming people whose interests are completely different or strange seeming, or whose process is slower, or whose communication is limited, has anything to do with ability to learn or think and create.

Having said that, I often get lost or annoyed when attempting to follow passionate political conversations. My 'wish I was smarter' line was more of a silly throw away.

But I'm glad I threw it out there, because I love the perspective you shared!! I'm gonna see my confusion your way for now! I like it!

Re the missing word in the rules:

COMMENT

Rob, I love your site because it imposes these very rules which promote civility in conversations, as opposed to all those sites where anarchy reigns and all 'opinions' are equal including those off lunatics. and self-promoters.As you know, I am seeking to expose 2 decades of the systematic undermining of the profession of pedagogy and the resultant failure of public education. it is no imaginary conspiracy, and I will endeavor to present evidence for all allegations, so it is not precluded by your rules

I do have a bone of contention, Rob.

The word 'education' is totally absent, and that omission is telling. The national narrative does not include any which address real education reforms, which is why there is nary a word about how the sequester is farther diminishing public education.

For example: Notice MY boldface additions to your list.

* Activism, -- positive, progressive, socialist movements and actions, education reform, occupy, anti-war, peace, animal rights, civil disobedience, revolutions...,

Should education reform come after animal rights? Or is it so minor an issue that it is included generically in 'socialist movements and actions'?

The reality is that 'education reform' or simply 'education' only appears as a topic when pseudo-educators like Rhee or Klein talks about it and where it supports corporate interests for privatization.

* The problems, misdeeds and deceptions of entrenched bureaucracies and the duopoly -- both Democrats and Republicans.

How can anyone watching what is unfolding in LAUSD, the second largest school system in the country (with a majority of minority students) and not see the same characters in entrenched bureaucracies with the same agenda that devastated NYC.

* Corporate globalization, economics, corporate crime and abuses, corporatism and its influence on politics affecting business, social welfare, health, education policies, etc

You missed the chance again! And the crime is real-- hence the data in "White Chalk Crime," by Karen Horwitz, and the abuse chronicled on her NAPTA site or the incredible abuses chronicled by Betsy Combier in NYC on NYC Public Voice.

As Paul Craig Roberts explained, Here on OEN.. the truth has no place in the controlled media, and thus " Pervasive inequality. That's the inescapable conclusion of 20 years of examining mathematics standards, student achievement, textbooks, tests, and classroom content" (from The American Educator)

*Politics -- Constitutional rights, Congress, the Supreme Court, the White House.,

Yes, the main issue that I seek to expose, is the 20 year abuse of the Constitutional right to DUE PROCESS for Americans who just happen to be teachers. I will speak on this -- under this rubric.

But in truth, Rob, the topic of Constitutional rights is only a topic in the controlled media, when it applies to ethnic minorities, gays, women in the military, or religious organizations.

Nowhere, not ever is the total loss of such rights discussed in the context of the education workplace, which has been lawless ! Those 'expensive' (experienced professionals) could be removed from the budget with no right to contest slander. It never gets to THE Supreme Court, of Congress!

Moreover the rights of minorities to have the same education as the children of privileged households is the single most important deprivation of rights in this century. History will prove this to be true!

Which brings me to media,

* Media -- right- and left-wing, as well as right-wing extremist groups and corporate lobbyists who wield influence on the media to suppress the truth about issues such as: how public education was destroyed etc...

Why only extremist groups? Corporate lobbyists are responsible for the decimation of budgets that affect education. The mass media is totally owned by 5 or 6 corporations whose lobbyists that make sure that no genuine information about the abuses that caused public education to fail reaches the ears of the people.

The media is the crucial ingredient, because the only time teachers get airtime is when they are accused of incompetence (dead-wood) or worse. Education reform is mentioned only in the context of the media NARRATIVE about" evaluation' of teaching.

"Learning" and how learning is genuinely enabled appears only in educational journals, and real reform based on genuine EVIDENCE is never discussed in the media, because lobbyists and corporate money ensure that the media only gives voice to the very people who want to privatize education. THIS is another issue we don't see in the media.

*Ecology, energy., World issues -- Israel/Palestine, Iran, Egypt, Arab Spring, Iraq, Afghanistan, Burma, Greece, Europe, China, Africa. ,

and last?

* The arts, living, health and science, education religion, notable quotations., solid writing on JFK and RFK assassinations. , New, visionary, revolutionary ideas, and so much more.

Even here, after all my conversations with you "health and science, and religion," why is there not a word about education or education inequality -- an intentional process, as we see in LAUSD, and NYC, where the poorest kids are doomed to remain mired in poverty.

Does the disaster they are facing fall under 'so much more'?

My ideas may fall under visionary ideas, but that is sad, because it should not take a visionary or an activist to ensure the 'common good' that is in the preamble to our Constitution. Paul Craig Roberts would agree.

This site is more that a place to talk about truth --it is a place that can offer opportunity found in few places.

Oops: this is no attempt at intimidation, just an honest admission of my fears. But I too felt the subject of education sorely missing, although several people claimed too have written on it.

I wonder how was pedagogy missing from schools, when 90% of course contents is "pedagogy" ? Unless we agree that what passes as pedagogy in our times is not even that much.

Truly awaiting your future articles on Education,

Article not published:

I wrote an article on a published scientific report, written by a scientist and two of his colleagues. The head of the World Health Organization called the scientist credible, and said it would examine the evidence he presented earlier that the swine flu was produced in a laboratory. The article I wrote was a news article on the report itself. It was time sensitive, but the editor sat on it for three days, until I queried what happened. He said he would not publish it because, if I remember correctly, he basically did not believe in the premise. I thought that it had nothing to do with belief, that the scientist presented evidence in his journal-published article. The OEN editor was adamant, and thus the article was not published.

My understanding was that an article submitted but rejected could not be published as a diary either. So I rewrote the article as a new article, and published it as a diary.

I like many other OEN writers will not publish articles that have time sensitive content because of that kind of treatment. If an article is rejected, the author should be informed in a timely fashion, as well as a sentence or two about the reasons for the rejection. I felt that the three day or longer wait before I could find out what happened could have been construed as a deliberate quashing of news.

A number of things: I remember the old days. Submit an article to a magazine and wait up to three months. That was then. Now, most sites never respond at all. That's easier-- less expectations of fast response and less risk of angry rejected writers. We are a volunteer org. Some days only a few, or none show up to work the queue. Some days we have ten submissions in the queue, some days, 80. Some articles are 500 words with no links and some are 10,000 words with a lot of links. It can take time. Some articles we ask content-mill editors with specific expertise to assess. We don't intentionally delay articles, some demand more time to do a good job of assessing. We do enable submitters to put an expiration date on time-sensitive articles. That usually helps

One opinion: I've enjoyed opednews for some time and have even had it as my home page at times. But reading this little essay, particularly the part about bannings, changes it. There is a sort of arrogance, a pompous self righteousness that arises sometimes in the best intentioned progressive organizations. Years ago I worked at a rehab that was run by women who were the wives of wealthy local people. They were the nicest people but again and again and again you would see evidence of what actually qualified them for their executive positions. The very first element in any kind of progressiveness is inclusion. When you start excluding individuals (not talking about spammers), you are nothing but a wealthy person trying to force your internal fantasies on others. The first step on the road to conservatism is enforced liberalism.

WS:it's not the content that matters, it's the tone!:

Rob is very clear, and many of the comments on this thread, make the truth very clear, and yet you insist that inclusiveness and openness, is needed!

Your comment that " When you start excluding individuals you are nothing but a wealthy person trying to force your internal fantasies on others. The first step on the road to conservatism is enforced liberalism," indicates that you simply do not 'get' that banning rhetoric such as diatribes, profanity and rudeness, actually enables civil conversation, and not the kind of anarchy that creates so much noise that the message is lost.

Perhaps, you have never tried to post a serious piece and have a response from everyone with an opinion and a rectum, which is exhausting as someone said here, too. Or, "dripping with scorn" and self-promotion and "not a meaningful exchange', as Robert Becker says in his thoughtful comment. (Do you even read the rational responses?)

All journalists are expected to communicate effectively, and as Rob said (diplomatically) about one infuriated writer, " his idiosyncratic delivery was an experiment that didn't, ultimately work for us."

W.S., you can find a similar point of view in: This Story Stinks; The NY Times : "... it's not the content of the comments that matters. It's the tone. In a study published online last month in The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, we and three colleagues report on an experiment designed to measure what one might call 'the nasty effect. ' "

"The Web, it should be said, is still a marvelous place for public debate. But when it comes to reading and understanding news stories online -- like this one, for example -- the medium can have a surprisingly potent effect on the message. Comments from some readers, our research shows, can significantly distort what other readers think was reported in the first place. Our emerging online media landscape has created a new public forum without the traditional social norms and self-regulation that typically govern our in-person exchanges -- and that medium, increasingly, shapes both what we know and what we think we know"... "One possible approach to moderate the nasty effect, of course, is to shut down online reader comments altogether, as some media organizations and bloggers have done. Paul Krugman's blog post on this newspaper's Web site on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, for instance, simply ended with "I'm not going to allow comments on this post, for obvious reasons."

Also, WS, I refer you to something that was said in another essay in The NY Times, regarding an "open" discussion: "Open and Closed",

"Alas, 'openwashing,' as catchy as it sounds, only questions the authenticity of 'open' initiatives; it doesn't tell us what kinds of 'openness,' if any, are worth pursuing. We must differentiate the many different types of "open."

This was the take-away, and what (I think) is the reason for Rob's actions.... which YOU do not grasp! The piece begins by talking about how projects that are deemed by some as dangerous, but points to the same thing that is being discussed in the thread here. "... 'openness' has become a dangerously vague term, with lots of sex appeal but barely any analytical content. Certified as 'open,' the most heinous and suspicious ideas suddenly become acceptable"... "Openness is today a powerful cult, a religion with its own dogmas."

"Owning pipelines, people, products or even intellectual property is no longer the key to "SUCCESS",' proclaims the Internet pundit Jeff Jarvis. For many institutions, 'open' has become the new 'green.' And in the same way that companies will "greenwash" their initiatives by invoking eco-friendly window dressing to hide less-palatable practices, there has also emerged a term to describe similar efforts to read 'openness' into situations and environments where it doesn't exist: 'openwashing.' "

"This fascination with 'openness' 'stems mostly from the "SUCCESS" of open-source software, publicly accessible computer code that anyone is welcome to improve. But lately it has been applied to everything from politics to philanthropy; recent book titles include 'The Open-Source Everything Manifesto' and 'Radical Openness.' There's even 'OpenCola' -- a true soda drink for the masses."

Paul Repstock (he does not use initials like you do) commented on the OEN policy: "We all have our own biases, beliefs, and yes, our own agenda. We are not even totally consistent. I often end up contradicting myself or adopting a different position. Oped allows me to do this ,:

And in other comments I repeat here (because you have not read it): "Some topics are such "Hot Button" emotional issues, that they hijack any discussion and digress from the topic at hand. Preaching to the choir informs no one. It merely draws the boundaries in a more definite manner. Too many people construct religious cant out of small details. Doing so only further alienates those people who do not feel comfortable or feel excluded from the inner circle."

As Daniel Penisten ( who uses his name, too) says: "I think it is not easy to get "banned" here".

and this one by a commenter here: "We Oped contributors all have our personal views of what is really important in the world. As said before, it is not possible to please everyone, if the site is continually hijacked by personal intersts and a few people's demands, then we will loose the diversity of readers. That hurts the viability of the forum as a platform for our views. What is the benifit of talking only to those people who have the same viewpoint? The whole point of posting here is to inform or influence, that is lost in a monoculture."

I agree.

I also agree with Mark Sashine that : "There must be a transformation from quantity to quality. Forum is nice but you cannot talk all the time. There must be a goal. And what I had noticed is that when it comes to one direction there is not a lot of people going anywhere. We all prefer to mingle and admire others."

I write about a very important issue, and all my pieces point to a planned and on-going process of education inequality... the tragic impact of a hidden scandal -- the disintegration of the institution of education. My articles appears in the newsletter, lost among all the 'sexy stuff' and then-- 'poof', away it goes... even as the schools are privatized.

I never see my article hailed at the top of the Newsletter, as Magic Elixir: No Evidence Required should have been, as there are very few articles about education, and even less with the genuine voice of a professional teacher!

I sent that piece to educators across the country to my correspondents, including to Diane Rvitch, Lionie Haimison Anthony Cody and Randi Weingarten, to mention a few.

I am getting a wonderful responses from many teachers, but I am preaching to the choir, when my purpose is to break the truth of this hidden story to the public and is WHY I TAKE THE TIME TO POST HERE!

Reply to J. Edward Tremlett:

You're close, but I agree with Robert Becker: I think Ned has had a sex change, and is Mary Wilson. But you're right, it fer sure ain't Mary! Listen, anything we can 'say' that gets a 'team' behind banning activists and censoring/erasing their hard work and promotes slave-ier writers who self-censor more easily... please dig deep and give more money for less content... it is like burned sugar and fizz-water, like Pepsi, a most-winning formulae.

to Mary Wilson, if that's your name: Hallelujah, I see the light,

You're just too good for this site;

If Rob's no more than criminal dimwit,

Why keep company with morally unfit?

P.S. For a person who's overall made 21 comments at OpEdNews, one-third right here, you have very fixed opinions about what is "censorship" (read application of judgment) or freedom of expression (read balancing rights with abuse), not to mention your over-reach, invoking "God's ordained rights" (what, religions won't banish sinful heretics for sacrilege?).

I admire Rob as a political activist, journalist and educator, but where on his resume does it say he's organizing a religion based on your assertions of godhead? Talk about a fallacious cross between a red herring and a straw man. It may be self-exporting time for you to find another bar (from an old joke when communication breaks down).

Oh, and what is this "I know your team" nonsense? Sounds very secretive and ominous when it's manifestly clear this essay clarifies exactly what anyone in charge of a rational website must do to keep adults around. Strange, as one Ned departs, a soul sister in crooked verse emerges.

distain, bad poetry & bad mechanics: altogether gave away the game. Would someone so many here conceded wasn't dumb duplicate a ploy that's already fallen on its face? I figure the great con men know that, as soon as the jig is up, they switch personalities so they're not so obvious. On the other hand, a troll is a troll is a troll and disruption (see how I, Rob Kall, keep objectifying 'them'? Now 'them' are trolls) define their (my Kallian) existence.

On Mary Wilson: Originally this commenter posed as an elderly lady with son and daughter etc.

Now she seems to spread her wings so to speak

I am starting to doubt the very existence of this cmmenter- it seems more like some kind of a deliberate campaign

good call Mark: The IP is from the same area as Ned Ludd. The style of commenting is uniquely Ned's. The name, Mary Wilson, is that of a singer from the Supremes, who sang, "Set me free" also typical of Ned to choose a name signifying his anarchist leanings.

Ned probably had considerable back channel discussion among content-mill editors about giving him extra chances. He blew those extra chances with his nastiness, not his cute tangential remarks.

An interesting experience with an OEN editor:

I had an incredible experience with an OEN editor a little while back. I complained to the site but was told that nothing was going to change since the site has to support its editors.

I've written for OEN almost as long as the site has existed. This time I had written a headline article that had been entirely rewritten by an editor who seemed to prefer her own style to mine. She introduced errors and responded to comments as though the article was her own. When I protested she resolutely refused to cooperate with me. I took the article down and, since then, have done little writing for OEN.

I've written for peer review journals, magazines and a number of internet sites without ever being quite as undermined and blindsided.

That aside, I think Rob has done a spectacular job of assembling a (generally) excellent team of volunteers.

General agreement with policy, but not full:

Although I realize that 9-11, Sandy Hook and Chemtrails are pretty much go nowhere discussions with two opposed sides, one representing truth, I am sorry to see these subjects censored.

I understand that you are promoting public awareness on issues that can be pursued and as Dennis Kucinich knows only too well, one is not permitted to publicly pursue the above subjects in our society.

That is sad. I hope that when evidence and time permit, these subjects will be reopened for the sake of justice. Until then, I have no problem with the common sense guidelines.

Reply to Neal C Chambers:

It Is Indeed Sad: "Although I realize that 9-11, Sandy Hook and Chemtrails are pretty much go nowhere discussions with two opposed sides, one representing truth, I am sorry to see these subjects censored."

And this is perhaps the saddest part is that your statement indicates that there is only one side of a discussion of those subjects that could possibly represent truth. Which side? And is it not possible, like most every other subject that there are various shades of grey to the truth depending on your point of view? Your statement clearly illustrates what is wrong with our governance and our discussions today. Everyone is shouting over everyone else and is unwilling to even consider the possibility that someone with an opposing point of view just may have a small kernel of truth for you to consider.

The reason that 9-11 and Chemtrails are not given space is that those topics have literally been beaten to death. And while I have read many of those articles in my editing duties, I have never seen one that has produced any new information that I have not read in some previous article. So why would the bandwidth be wasted on something that says nothing new. As for Sandy Hook, I simply cannot believe that anyone would seek to make a conspiracy sport of that horrific tragedy. There were simply too many witnesses of a troubled young man doing a horrible thing to make this into anything like a who killed Kennedy. That's why these subjects are banned. Not from any desire to close down a wide range of progressive topics. But wasting bandwidth on idiocy and beaten to death subjects is an exercise in futility.

The bottom line: is that it is OEN's website and they can make up any rules they please.

If someone wants to discuss or read about a topic that is banned on this website, there are plenty of other websites one can go to.

If someone can't deal with these rules, one is free to move on.

This article was needed and cleared up some questions I had.

Thanks!

Why I Continue to Write for and Support OEN: Nothing is perfect, and in fact I've had one article outright rejected for, as far as I can tell, ideological ambiguity. That's OK, it was recycled stuff that had appeared on two other sites already, and I'd just thrown it into the mix here hoping to see what the reactions would be. If I have nothing to say, and nothing worth recycling, I simply don't submit anything, sometimes for months on end. The bottom line is that I've been given space for material here that no one else will publish, and read material here of a kind that I don't see anywhere else. I'm an extremist, a "conspiracy theorist" (on my my own time) and find political labels increasingly difficult to fit to my own views, which are always changing anyway. Even the one I use in my bio is getting old. People have said things to me off record about Rob that were less than kind, but true or not, they don't matter. Being able to read, comment, and write here is good; as long as it continues to be good for me, I'll continue to do so, and support the site. Ned Lud has been one of my supporters, and I'm sorry to hear about the ban. But having had to hold my own in forums where all manner of nastiness was allowed, I can sort of understand, although I missed the comment in question.

acceptable comments: Is it ok to write or comment on Democratic leaders who have changed their position in regards to putting Social security cuts on the table for a debt deal with the Republicans or is this perhaps something better left unspoken. Just checking havent seen any articles lately on this subject. It is a very serious event.

Criticism of all parties is okay: from a progressive perspective.

But if you're going to submit an article, you have to use your real name, not a handle, which you ARE allowed to use just for commenting. That's a policy we put in place at least two years ago. There are some exceptions, for people who tell us and confirm who they really are who give a great reason why they need to use a pseudonym. And then, the pseudonym cannot be a handle which does not look like a name.

Will this comment be censored, suppressed, considered spam?:

I don't know. I do know that I feel like a socket in the wind.. or you might ike someone without knowing you what direction to follow. I do have a feeling that OpedNews has changed a lot from those original days. I feel like during those original days either the contributors and commenters to the site were more on the same page with each other than today's authors/contributors and commnters seem to be.

This thing about if we don't like it, if we think this is spam, or if it is offensive to us or our readers ... these are our rules, this is how you ge published, this is how you don't, seems to be putting a damper on the freedom of expression OEN's writers/authors and contributors used to enjoy at one time. It might be good, or it might be bad. It might put a damper on the creativity of a person writing their own opinion from the reality of their heart as opposed to someone else's litany of facts submitted in an oped piece ... which by then, I think, is not as fresh, or as freshly created a piece as that which comes from that reality of the heart. That reality that gets buried under the sand lots of time but can never be denied.

I was astounced several years ago when I was told by a writer/editor who is no longer there not to spam him. I didn't know I had. I don't even ecall what the whole thing was about. If I am recallig correctly he had written an article about Cuba. I had left Cuba in 1961 and in my comment I may have differed with is POV, or I may have included a link to an interview done by South Carolina Public Radio of the time when I left Cuba.

Would that be considered spam today? Would it be considered providing a link to some supporting fact?

Like I said at the beginning of my comment. I am confused and feel like a socket in the wind being driven in some direction not knowing where this very comment is goig to land. If it will land in the reject basket, or in the in basket.

Whichever one it is, may everyone have a good day.

All's well: With 40-50 editors, response to article submissions can really vary. Volunteer content-mill editors are human We're grateful you've been with us almost eight years skyagunsta, after banning 40+ paid acivists / liberals, we don't want to appear what we are, slightly right of Nixon. We need all the cash we can get, God is always broke. We need cash, what we don't need is writers writing about Globalism, Pollution, Military-Industrial Pollution, Coral Bleaching, Ocean Acidification, Fukushima, the Kallian N-word >word deleted by Rob Kall< (Nouvelle Global Accession), Depleted Uranium Munitions, Petroleum Pipelines, Corporatism... You cannot write about "rights" at Slop-ed-'news' without being banned and censored... We say we want such articles on the right, and ban/erase those articles on the left, pun-intended. We say we are just banning the writers, but erasing their work with no warning and no path to providing an e-copy is the equivalent of Goebles burning e-books...
